Ball State University issued the following announcement on Nov. 5.

Chart-topping string quintet SYBARITE5 will perform at 7:30 p.m. November 8 at Ball State University’s Sursa Performance Hall as part of the Arts Alive! Concert Series.

The group’s most recent album, “Outliers,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Traditional Classical Chart. The quintet’s live program, titled Endeavor, is an eclectic mix of the ensemble’s recent commissions and premieres from composers Jessica Meyer, Brandon Ridenour, Steven Snowden, William Brittelle, and 2018 Pulitzer finalist Michael Gilbertson. These new works join up with tunes by Marc Mellits, Aleksandra Vrebalov, and even the soulful side of John Coltrane.

“Chamber music is not always a stuffy white tie affair for those with a deep knowledge of classical music,” said Patrick Stauffer, coordinator of music promotional services at Ball State’s School of Music. “SYBARITE5’s program will take audience members on a journey through works by living composers from a variety of backgrounds and life experiences writing music that reflects our modern age. There will be something for everyone.”

Along with SYBARITE5, the 16th season of Arts Alive! will include performances by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra on February 9, 2020, and operatic tenor Lawrence Brownlee on March 22, 2020.

“The Arts Alive! Concert Series brings world-renowned and award-winning musicians right here to Ball State,” Stauffer said. “The series allows our students and patrons the opportunity to hear top-notch artists for a fraction of the cost they would have to pay elsewhere.”

Tickets to the event are $35 for the public and $10 for students. Arts Alive! series subscription for all three upcoming concerts is $85 for the public and $40 for students. Buy tickets in person at the Emens Auditorium box office, over the phone with box office at 765-285-1539, or online via Ticketmaster.
